has ne one ever heard of putting motor oil in place of power steering fluid some one told me it works better for the old trucks like mine i got a 84 gmc k25 said it makes it easier to steer?

I would not think so. Motor oil does not have the same compression value as PS fluid. One is designed for lubrication the other as a hydro fluid

this needs to be moved to tech

yeah thats what i was thinking i want to be able to steer easier but dont have the money to go hydraulic plus the truck is big lol my bad i didnt look where i was putting the post how do u move it to tech?

Only a mod/admin can move this to tech...

atf is factory recomended again these days as p/s fluid in newer vehicles. no more p/s specific fluid.

I use a Tractor Hydro Fluid (Like you would find in a skidder or loader transmission) It has the antifoam aditives to help with cavitation but also have the lube properties of oil (Dextron is light weight mineral based solvent with slip modifiers) I have been told that dextron has less lubrication and can wear parts and seals. I have no real data to support that though.

add some lucas power steering fluid. It will thicken your existing oil & will leak less through the vanes in your pump. Add only one bottle to your system, you don't want it to thick.

x2 on lucas for small leaks or small noise. that stuff works. i have seen it do amazing stuff over the years.
