After watching KOH '09 and the Rousche Creek qualifier, I caught the racing bug. Then ECORS came along, black bear racing was formed, and the build began. I wanted to build a cheap class A racer to go beat up. I had a parts XJ, and there are plenty of guys in my club with spare tj/xj parts, so the build begins.

Here it is.. the transparent XJ.

In the beginging 1995 4door 5 speed.

All the rust we found. This xj was a beach buggy from VT.

Cutting the rust out begins.

welding up front shock mounts.

Looks like a lot of fun John. I too have caught this racing bug you speak of....trying to figure out the best cure for it right now...

..so good, I lapped it for a second look :flipoff2:
got the clutch all fixed yet?

Nope... I am taking some time away from the shop and helping others with their projects. I did take the cap of of the master reservoir, and its bone dry. Either i blew a line, or the slave cyl.

Kyle, you need to race, thats the only cure for the bug. Find a dirt cheap 6cyl toy, xj, isuzu, whatever. find some used 33's, put some numbers on the side, and your racin.

That is probably the best plan, and may very well be what i do, but i have also been considering just running the toyota in the B class and seeing how things go. Its dead reliable, and is very used to being bombed down the trail faster than it should. Its light, but down on power so I'm not sure how it would fair....

well as long as it ran the whole race and didnt break you could have taken 3rd in B class at the Fall Brawl.

Finally started working on the clutch. New hydro clutch assembly = $196, I needed a cheaper way. Yager told me about brazing on some -3 an fitting to the fittings on the master cyl, and slave cyl. Then its a matter of getting the right length -3 hose.

Here is the fitting on the slave cyl.

Picked up some 03 an Aeroquip hose and fittings,

Pulled the intake and exhaust manifolds, I have a newer exhaust manifold to go in when i get some gaskets.

some updates..
I made upper and lower visors inspired by desert racers, and created some storage for tools and basic supplies. I have some L track to put down on the new floor to secure things to. I still need to fix my steering and build a winch bumper.
