Didn't realize it, but National Welders fills 'pane tanks, too.. I was there last week buying some welding cables, and I commented that they should start filling.. The guy looked at me kinda funny and said "We do".. saweet!

Filled 2 33# tanks for $43.15 including all fees, taxes, blah blah... Was like $19.14 before the taxes per bottle.

It works out very close to what I would have paid to fill the gas tank on Blue II. ;)

Durham/RTP doesn't seem to be conducive to über cheap propane fills like a few guys in Raleigh have told me about...

I still dont understand why you are paying taxes on it???? I get mine filled and its a flat fee of $14~18 depending how empty the tanks are. Maybe he dont charge tax or its included

You ought to be able to get around the taxes somehow but don't know how.

Yeah, MAPP is basically propane, which is used for cutting torches all of the time as an alternative to acetelyene.

I just called them back.. Nat'l welders charges a haz-mat fee, gov't reg. commission fee, and a fuel surcharge fee, in addition to sales tax.

This shit is getting frustrating.

EDIT: Slightly better price, much better location.. $19 for a fill at a TruValue Hardware about 5 miles from work. eeeh, good enough.

Must be a Durham County thing... or they know that Chapel Hill is too full of tree huggers to have a propane filling station, so they have a strangle hold around here. ;)

Damn u-haul place wanted $3.29 a gallon!!

I was wondering how the price per mile of propane comp. to gas?

LAst time I filled, 46.6 gallons, was a little less than $85

This was 6 tanks. Check camping places, yellow pages under fuel and so on. About everywhere I called around here was about the same. Noticed while going to CN this past weekend, it was even cheaper up there.

BTW Rich, you have a full tank comming in Sept!

Sam not sure of MPG's but, I rode all day on less than 2 tanks(15 gal) and there was hard full throttle stuff. I have read it is less than gas, but the zero waste makes it more efficent.
