A friend of mine just put propane on his Toyota 22R engine. Impco 100 mixer, not sure what converter, and a vac lock off. Seems it is hard to start after sitting a few days. If he goes out and pushes the button(primer??) on the converter, it will start. Any ideas?
TIA

I've only had one rig, ZRox, with propane so I'm no expert but....Maybe the vac lock off needs rebuild? Maybe the vac of the engine isn't opening the lock off but the primer button on the converter will let some fuel in? Just a thought.

Even if it is leaking out of the system over a few days (I assume he cuts the tank off), once you turn the tank on you should have instant fuel, since it is pressurized.

Hard starting is a common problem, we normally replace the lockoff and converter together, rarely actually "test" to see which is bad. It's a good habit to replace both at the same time anyways.

I've got a lockoff and a converter if you'd need them for testing, one or the other is bad, not sure which (I think the converter was getting LPG, but none was coming out, so the lockoff should be good).

Try pulling the lines off the converter, if it's got LPG in but not out, there's your problem.

How old are they?

Mine has always been that way. Thought it was normal.

Ya see, mine isn't like that at all. Doesn't matter how long it's been sitting, it fires right up. Other friends of mine who run pane have no issues. Some crank as good as mine, others little slower, but no one else has to push the prime button. I am thinking either the lock off, or the amount of vacuum it builds while cranking. I have a spare lock off I am gonna let him try, but first I am gonna have him move his vac line to see if that helps.
Thanks for the input guys

if mine sits with the tank turned off,the first time i turn the tanks on and try to start it ,it takes about 15-20 turns of the motor to start, after its been run for the first time that day it starts right up with only 1.5-2 turns of the motor, will do that all day as long as i dont turn the tank off.
so if the tank isnt ever shut off it will crank up vey fast(like upnovers)every time.Is this normal?

To me, that sounds like there is a leak somewhere from the tank to the mixer.
For the record, I never turn off my tank. Even when I run one out, and have to switch to the other, it cranks right up

i guess i will get the old soap and water and spray it on every fitting to see if theres a leak somewere.
i ran it with a full tank at the house for 1 hour, went to the mountain city 4x4 cross, and ran the mountain till 6 oclock on one tank full, and its still running at the house.i cant believe how long one tank has lasted.
