Propane question...

I am not a propane guru, so I need some advice on how to procede with this propane setup:

I have this large open area in the flat bed of my truggy (which runs on propane) and one of my buddies goes "hey man, you need to put a gas grill in there!" That would make cooking food on the trail and in camp nice and easy. So that got me to thinking...

If I were to mount a small grill, how would I hook it up to run off of the propane system I have? Please correct me if my logic is wrong here, but I think I could T into the line that runs from the mixer (correct term?) to the intake manifold because the propane is a gas at that point in the system. Can I just run that line to a grill with a shut-off valve?

No, not really. You are right, at that point it is a gas, but,... it is only allowing a gas flow when the engine is running. Either your vacuum lock off or your electric lock off will not be activated unless your engine is running. If you fixed it to have flow to run a grill, then you would also have propane gas going into the mixer, and not being burn creating a heavy propane gas leak smell, which could be dangerous.
What you could do is T into your supply line that goes from your tank to your gas lock off. This is a liquid supply so to use it on a grill or any other propane stuff like a lantern or grill or heater or so on, you would have to turn your tank upside down. Doing this would pick up vapor instead of liquid.
Another thing you could do is to add a valve to your propane tank on the vapor side. This would allow you to pick up from the top of the tank which would be vapor instead of the bottom which is liquid.
Hope this helps

Please don't do this. It would be too easy to make the mistake of having the tank in the wrong position and feeding liquid propane to the grill.

This would be the correct way to approach this, but still not a real good idea. You would also have to have a regulator before the grill somewhere in the system.

IMO, the risk/trouble of doing this would out weigh any benefit.

its a cool idea, and maybe you could make a system to work off the extra tank you could carry, and remove from the vehicle... that way you wouldnt haveto mess with the system on the truck, and youd havea backup tank jic
