push button 4x4 help

i just got a 98 ZR2 s10. its the first push button 4x4 ive owned and i cant get it to go into 4hi. it will go into 4lo fine, but when i try to go to 4hi the lights just flash and it goes back to 2wd. anybody know anything about this? do i have to do somethin special to go to 4hi? with 4lo i just put it in neutral and slow down. thanks.

IIRC there is two parts to that system besides the button. you have a shift encoder on the tcase and a computer that controls it under the dash beneath the steering column. it is not uncommon for either to fail.

the computer under the dash is $$$$$$$$$$$$. hope it ain't that.

These are bad for water leaks at the right front door seal allowing water into the computer. Pull the right kick panel and you can get to the computer, open it up and see if it is corroded.
