I have a quadrajet on the tow pig, and I was doing some work on the motor the other day (oil change, air filter, etc) and noticed that the secondaries were never opening when it was revved. I looked into it further (haven't had the truck that long) and found that the rod going from the vacuum canister to the butterfly for the secondaries is not there. It is running on just the tiny primaries.
I wondered why it seemed to run out of steam on long pulls, but I just chalked it up to a heavy truck and an older small block with some miles on it.
From what I can tell, the rod doesn't run straight from the vacuum canister to the butterfly. It seems like there has to be a cam or something in the middle because the vacuum pushes and the butterflies need to be pulled, if that makes sense.
Question is, does anyone know if this is something I can get new?
I know I can get a new carb for around $250, but that is more than I need to spend now.
Does anyone have a junk quadrajet laying around they would like to donate?
