The pressure switch is just a swich which has constant voltage to it. When the pressure is low it has contacts that close to allow power to run thru it, you have the compressor connected to the other side. When the pressure reaches a certain PSI the contacts open and cuts the power to the compressor. MOst cut off at 125 PSI, and back on at 90 PSI. Some have a bleeder valve or a purge valveon them. This takes the load off the compressor when it reaches cut out PSI. Others have simply one line into the switch, and the compressor will keep pressure on it. Hope this helps
