So i have 2 xjs (97,98), both still have air bags,(driver, passenger) and I dont want them.

My questions are

Who do i market them too?

How much are they worth?

Does anyone know who might want them?

I hear some big numbers on what they cost, but im not sure who could remove them, or what to do.I sure would love to sell them to someone who could remove them.

This is technicaly not supposed to be a for sale add in tech, so really Im just looking for info to get me started and I migh post in sales later.

I can pull them for you, I sold some toyota airbags on ebay last month, $250 for a 98 4runner d-side, p-side, clockspring, and controller as a set. i think techinacally it is illegal to sell them but junkyards do, and UPS or anyone won't ship them, when they asked me what was in the box I said SRS system. You could try some body shops or junkyard they might give you a $100 for them.

when did you get another?

they are worth about 200 a set. but they are all over ebay I have tried to sell some. I would post them on a California or texas Craigs list. the Savage rebuliding industry is big there.

The best way to remove the air bag out of your Jeep is to reach down with your left hand pull the door lever and step out.:flipoff2:

Although they are illegal to sell, I've seen them go for about $50 each and that is what I have paid for them in the past.

Why are you taking them out?

Be looking for me to shoot bottle rockets towards your house, and i will train Sophie to :poop: in your yard....that will give our other neighbors a break!

I ve got a junker(98) with two of em'. That could translate to needed $ over unneeded air bags. As for the one i wheel, I will probably keep them, but my 2 yr old, in a car seat shouldnt ride up front with an active airbag.....Right? So basicly the answer is free $

Are they hard to remove?
What kinda damage are we talking about?
Do I get a hole in the stearing wheel and the dash?
ARE THEY EASY TO SET OFF, WHILE REMOVING?

Not hard at all to remove and just make sure the battery is disconnected. There are a couple of screws on the back side of the steering wheel that hold the drivers side in. Probably where the spokes of the wheel are. then just remove the whole thing and unplug it. The pass side I'm not too sure about on the jeep. Odds are there is a cover that must be removed and then a couple or four nuts/bolts holding the airbag to the frame of the dash board. Not too sure but you may have to rig up something for the horn to work if you don't have horn buttons on the steering wheel spokes. You will be looking at the ugly center of your steering wheel from now on as the airbag is the whole thing that you see now.

Is this really all there is too it? I have heard alot of horror stories about them going off by accident. Like ....a aguy got killed at the BMW dealership cause he hit the door jamb to hard while doing body work. The side bag 'went off' and he was
ripped in half!

I know this a dramatic story, BUT.... you make it sound simple and safe enough. So as long as the battery is disconnected
I should be fine, right?

Well they work on a electrical impact to set off the chemical reaction. Most would say they won't go off if the battery is unplugged. The factory manuals and such recommend a very specific procedure to follow before working on anything that would possibly set off the airbags(i'm sure they do that for a reason)

I have never seen them go off by accident, and i do alot of dash and wiring work. I always disconnect the battery anyways before doing anything electrically,

It would be way funner to set them off tho

I have thought about setting a pumpkin on top of one, then set it off while aimed at my neighbors house. That would be way cool. My neighbor would probably even laugh at that.

Dirty jobs tonight was in a junk yard

they dug a hole in the ground, set the bag in it, then put a 55 gallon plastic drum over it and shot it off in the air, it was pretty cool.

I can guarantee you that's a myth...

I worked on BMW's in a professional setting for 5 years and never even bothered to unhook the battery. I've taken out probably a hundred airbags from both drivers and passengers, side airbags, curtain airbags, all of 'em without disconnecting the battery. Just make sure the ignition was off or it would set an airbag light. Never seen one go off that wasn't supposed to, like when we would set them off to see how high they would go. On BMW's (And probably all the other vehicles) inside the plug is a little prong that, when unplugged would jump the two terminals on the airbag side to prevent accidental discharges. Called a grounding prong they basically just keep the voltage from going through the bag because the bag has more resistance than the grounding prong.
