I've been pondering a new project and need to know a couple of things.I'm keeping with a Willys theme on this rig so I want to keep the offset axles and dana 18 transfercase. The dana 18 has the same texas bolt pattern as a jeep dana 20.Is the rear bolt pattern of a let's say a np435 the same? I've allready got to get an adaptor for the engine to tranny adaptor (either bell housing to tranny or bell housing to engine) and trying to weigh my options on the gear train.Guess I could do a t18 from a j truck but np435s are cheaper and very plentiful. One adapter put a c4 to the rear of this engine so that got me thinking of np435. If I can find the right setup tho,I'd keep with the little t90 3 speed to keep my geartrain length shorter.

decissions decissions. The only sure thing is what the power plant will be:driver:.

well for that much,I'll just see if I can find a bell housing to tranny adaptor so I can keep my t90.That is the way the old-schoolers did it back in the day anyhow.

the t90 is a good tranny, but with the v8 power be careful you don't beat on it to hard.

I went with the 4.3 chevy, sm465, dana18 adapter from AA in my willys

JC is right. However, you mentioned "Willys theme" so it is presumed you are either working on a Willys or an early-style CJ. That being said, Novak's adapter for the NP435 is 3-1/2" long. Their T-18 and SM465 adapters are only 1" in length. Just something to think about.

I've wound up with a spare 2a frame so I'm wanting to build another project that can sport 33 inch tires. A L4 just doesn't have the umph to turn them on the trails. Now with that being said, I'm wanting to go with more power yet be something a little more in the WOW catagory without overtaxing to the geartrain. I know I can go cheaper and quicker routes but this being a side project from my main trail rig I have time and in no rush to build this. All this might be moot tho.I picked up a power plant yesterday and didn't realise how big and heavy this engine is.I'll know a little more what is going on once I get it out the truck and on the floor. Then I can get some measurements compared to the L4.
