Quick question about a 97 S10 Blazer

Think I have an issue with my DD Blazer. Replaced the passenger side CV axle and when I put the assembly back together and bolted the wheel back on, the wheel would not free spin. Had both front wheels in the air but the driver side wheel would spin by hand and the passenger side would only rotate a couple inches side to side. Could not get it to spin anymore than that no matter how hard I tried. Both front wheels would free spin fine before I changed the CV axle. I compared the new and old axles before I replaced it and everything looked to be the same.

I can drive the truck and it doesn't pull to the right. I've replaced the front brake calipers and hoses a few weeks ago. The wheel bearings seem to be fine. Can wiggle the wheels and the bearings have no play in them.

I've also noticed a roaring noise from the frontend, that varies from high to low frequency. It's pretty much a constant noise when I drive it. I can also feel it in the floorboard of the truck while driving. Noise has started after I swapped in the new CV axle.

Just put new wheels/tires on it, Rough Country lift with new upper A-arms and balljoints, front end alignment just done, etc. Alignment shop didn't find any worn out suspension parts.

Anyone have any ideas?

I know this sounds stupid but all the symptoms you've described almost sound like it's in 4wd.
My other suggestion would be; Did the new CV have a ring on it for an abs sensor to pick up. Maybe its the wrong diameter?

Could also be for a ZR2 as well. I'd pull it and compare sizes.

Neither the old or the new CV axle had the ABS ring. The ABS ring is on the wheel bearing.

Everything bolted back together fine. I compared the old and the new axle and they looked identical.

Marsfab, don't believe it is in 4wd. If I floor it in my gravel driveway, only the rear tires spin.

s10 = abs in the bearing unit not on axle.

does the sound get less or more if you swerve left to right like you would load the wheel bearing ?

side thats louder is prob bad wheel bearing.

does it sound like a old metal bearing steel wheel roller skate on concreat ? if so then prob wheel bearing.

and did you know there is a spec for the main nut on the wheel bearing to axle nut in the center?

and if to tight or lose wheel bearing death much faster.

also never install the nut with impact = cuts life in half

Ok, first mistake then was installing the nut with an 3/4" impact gun. Any idea what the correct torque spec is? The axle nut on the old axle was extremely tight, had to heat it some to get it loose.

The sound does get quieter when you turn to the right. So I guess that would point to the right side wheel bearing, since it takes some of the load off when making a right turn.

I'll pick up a new wheel bearing this week. Thanks.

Probably going to take it all back apart and check everything again.

if you turn left and loud = left. as load is on left

if you turn right and loud = right as load is on right

but not always true. best to have it up in the air all 4 wheels and in drive with 4x4 in and long screw driver to ear and other end to bolt on hub were wheel bearing is attached. its a cheep stethescope like listening to your heart. you will hear it and pin point the best.

dont quote me on this but most gm trucks 170-180 ft-lbs range for nut. can check my book in the am if no one chims in with exact.

on a chevy s10 blazer the wheel torque is 103 ft lbs. i am also having the same trouble i just had it put together and it wasnt making noise till i lifted the truck up to put tires on it and it started making noise again
