quick question about selling a car out of state (figured it out)

I am selling my Truck out of state, but taking it to a family member to drop it off.

I am taking my tags and turning them in, blah blah blah, but I need to get the title signed off.

What do I need to do to sign the title over legally to someone out of state if they are not here to sign it?

Do I sign my part and leave it open? As long as I get my money, does this open me up for any issues?

I would call the DMV and ask them.

"Press 1 for spanish, Press 2 for someone making more money than you are poorly reading regulations they do not understand..."

My DMV phone calls usually get pretty retarded, pretty quick.:shaking:

The *right* way to do it is to find a bank w/ a branch in both of your towns. Walk in, find their notary, have them witness/notorize that you signed it, then have them courier it to the branch where the family member is. When they arrivem they show ID and the bank hands over title. They sign and take to their own DMV.

I have always signed off as the seller. Then I would get my signature notorized, thus giving up ownership of the car. Not saying it is right, but it has always worked.

depends on the stae...many such as SC do not require a notary....
