what does it mean when you give someone a bump in their thread?

It means by posting you just moved their thread from the bottom of the page, or on page 2,3,4,5 or what ever to the top of the 1st page. So you bumped their thread back up to the 1st page.

So it gets more looks by folks that may be interested. I dunno about you, but I don't go sifting through every single page on this site. I usually go to new posts and don't look any further back than 4 pages. Some guys help bump the thread because they know the guy or they just really like his rig.

so the thread has better visibility...for example, I thought this thread was dead, but I saw you bumped it back to the top. I then had to click it again to see what could possible have bumped it back to the top.

Some people do not dig to far back in the thread, by not going back a couple of pages they might miss what's listed. When it's bumped it puts it back to the top of the first page.
