I was just wondering if anyone here has had the series of rabies shots? If so how bad are they? Reason I'm asking is cause I was bitten and clawed by a cat yesterday and I had to go to the urgent care today cause one of the scratches made my pinky finger swell up and throb like I hit it w/ a hammer. So I got an antibotic shot and enough pills for ten days. Animal control had to be called to retrieve the cat to be quarinteened. Now the owner says the cat can't be found. BS. So I will probably have to take the shots starting in ten days.

my wife was bitten by a chipmunk...had to get the shots. She had to go several different times for a for a total of 10 or so shots in arms and legs. She said it sucked.

...and time off work. ....and....

I'm not a fan of suing somebody...but if they're being a dick and can't "find" the cat...

Those shots are really expensive. About 4 grand..thank goodness for my overpriced ins. we only have to pay 1300.00<<----said with sarcasm!

the shots are CRAZY expensive. But not too painful. These are not in the stomach, as horror stories portray. they are all in the arms and or hips. I had to get 1cc in the bite itself (that hurt quite a bit). if the cat is found it can be tested for rabies, by removing its head. I strongly encourage you to contact the local animal control officers.

Owner can't find the cat? Make the owner pay for the shots. Simple as that. (I know it's really not that simple, but I do think it's just.)

Ditto on this.
Also not a fan of lawsuits, pushing people for $$ etc - but those shots are super costly. Seems to me the owner is responsible for the costs. if it was a hundred bucks or a few, not worth te hargyument. But it isn't.
I think you'll find once the owner "realizes" this, the cat will be found. Otherwsie it will be one very expensive cat.

Cat bites are nasty anyhow, you're lucky to not be in the hospital. Get a racoon trap and put some wet cat food in it, you'll find the cat.

The cat's owner should be responsbile for paying for the shots. Otherwise, talk to the animal control officer to determine if the state would be willing to foot the bill. As mentioned above, the shots are very expensive!

I was attacked by a boxer last month while visiting a friend in South Carolina. Luckily they were able to quarantine the dog for 10 days so I didn't have to go through the shots - the animal control officer notified me that it would cost several thousand dollars for the rabies shots & the state of SC would pay if I needed them since it was a stray. (I only had to cover the bills from urgent care). But, if the owner claimed the dog, it would be their responsibility to cover all medical expenses.

Got a preventive shot for a dog bite once only to inquire with another doctor after I got the bill ($900) and was informed that only about 3% of dog bites get infected compared to 93% of cats and small children. I still have the statement here at work to advise others on the live-and-learn outragious cost.
X2 on trapping the cat and approaching the owner to cover the med bills or insisting that rat killer bait will be used in your next trap...

I think their homeowners insurance may cover it. I will find out tomorrow. I just wish the stupid cat would just go in the cage animal control has set. I just dont trust some of these shots doctors give.
