i got some of the plastic pieces from advance that are supposed to be used to disconnect fuel and transmission lines. they're little plastic circles but i don't really know how to use them. i'm replacing a radiator and tranny line on a 2000 xj and i need to unhook the transmission sending and return line

i've tried to unhook it using the plastic pieces but i cant seem to get it loose. is this typically pretty hard to do? pointers?

a metal hose comes out of the transmission... stops where you see the image above. then there's a flexible rubber hose....then a clamp, then a metal connector that looks like a mini funnel and the last metal hose plugs into it. that's what i need to get off... everything else needs to stay. the metal hoses that come directly out of the radiator are messed up and im trying to replace it.....but how do i get it off using these tools? i see how it's held in but it looks as if i'd need 4 screw drivers and 5 hands to do it without one of these tools.

Not sure if those are the correct tool, but very similer. the ones I've seen are round plactic with a neck that sticks off of them. Split in the middle so they will go around the line, but you push the neck into the fitting and then pull it apart. The ones I've seen are at advance or vato zone for pretty cheap and are all white. Seems to me to be for Fords, but they might work for the Jeep too. Not sure. Also not sure how the ones you have work.

Edit: they tools I'm talking about are basically a flat disc about 1/2 inch thick with a neck on them and split on one side. (I hope that's a better discription.)

rattlecan, the only ones i saw like you described were like the ones at the top of the disconnect tool set.... the gray and sky blue ones.

the very end piece is the piece im trying to get out

heres a look at both lines and you can see where they need to be disconnected

Yea, those look like the ones I'm discribing. Are those the wrong diameter? The set I've seen has like 4 or 5 different sizes. Sometimes they are a PITA to get apart even with the tools. I've used a pair of pliers to push the tool into the fitting to unlock the thing in the past. Can you look into the fitting and see abunch of little fingers inside holding the line in it?

yeah i can see them.....the piece seems to fit. i've tried pushing them in and all. maybe i just have to keep at it....

You are most likely trying too hard. Just push the tool into the connector to spread the little spring apart and then Gently pull it apart. The problem that most people heve is the think that they have to push it hard to get it to release. you are just pushing it in enough to spread the spring. then let go of the tool and pull the pipes apart

i tried doing it easy and had no luck. i got really pissed after trying for days and pushed and pulled with all my might and IT CAME OFF. thanks guys
