Radiators for XJ question?

My OE style metal radiator I have in my ECORS XJ is leaking, might see if it can be patched. However I have seen radiators on EBAY for 60-70 bucks shipped, they are metal with plastic ends on them. Now I'm sure they would be fine for DD or light trail use, but what do you guys think about race use. Seems they might would crack, where the all metal ones would flex more without leaking. Can you still get all metal radiators for them or is half plastic the only alternative. Thanks

I didnt know there were all metal ones out there, from the factory I guess. Both my DD 99 XJ and 95 racerig have the plastic endcaps. No visual cracks after the Fall Brawl or DPG race, but it was low on coolant after DPG (started at MAX, finished at MIN, temp gauge was fine, oil looked good), dunno where the coolant went.

Maybe Ill go with the plastic one on ebay then? The radiator I put in the ecors rig was used anyway from my old 91 original URE4x4 cross rig, pretty sure it was OE, hell it might have been leaking then. It held up long enought o do one loop around RML a couple years ago!

My thought train is that a metal one would sustain less damage from an impact than a plastic one? Any thoughts?

ron davis makes a direct fit one with fans and all... check it out

the plactic ones going through heat cycles will always be weaker... go with an aluminum one if you can.

an aluminum one would probably be worth more than the jeep itself...
ding ding, we have a winner, hey man I think I still have your knife from the ecors race

You ddont have my knife also do ya?

I let someone borrow it or dropped it or something, LOL...

Brad I thought you had a harem of XJs, rob a radiator from one of them

Only one left, and there aint much left of her, sadly her radiator fell victim to the tree @ DPG. Any radiator shops looking for advertising?

Hey Brad...call these guys and see what they say. I talked with a rep for a few mins. and mentioned the races and possible advertising/sponsor ops, but he couldnt do anything. He did say to call his boss though.

Might be worth a shot for you to call and see. I am planning to call soon and ask about the series and vendor/sponsor questions.

Callem and give them the info...it will help butter them up for when I call.

I was greeted today by a puddle of coolant under the passenger-side, looks like the crimp between plastic tank and center section might be leaking....#$%$%@

Radiatorbarn.com has the option for an all metal rad, but its in the $250 range.

I destroyed a brand new all metal at the last race (hit a tree). The naxja guys lean to the all metal rad's as they have better cooling / heat transfer then the plastic ones.

You might could get away with a plastic cap rad for a race or two as long as you stay out of the trees but then it would need replacing.

I ended up taking it to a radiator shop, fixed it for around $50, hopefully it will hold up.
Speaking of hitting a tree, was it the one where you first enter the rocks? If so it took out my left side unibody frame rail, grill, lights, etc.

Mine has the plastic one on it too. Personally, unless the price was really close to the steel I'd stick with the plastic one. I don't think the chances of it breaking from flexing are any more than a steel one. I think they'd be just about the same as far as impact goes. I'd save your money and go the ebay route. Better yet, just don't have an impact. :p Can't you put a fabtastic bumper up front to prevent crushing the radiator? I don't think there are any rules on armor for each class..?
