Scored a basically new PSC steering gear on the way home from Knoxville, swapped a poor fitting driver knuckle to a new Mopar and got steering installed. Time to get busy on the rear now!

What did I find? Dug up with the backhoe, 2-3 feet deep.

Around 6 & 8" diameter.

The disc with the square drive/axle hole is thin, and looks like it was serated/toothed on the edge, about like a plywood blade. Didn't measure but square cutout is around 1.25-1.5". Too thin to be a narrow disc. At least a modern tractor pulled one.

To add:... This land was farmed up to around 1940, then pine plantation, clearcut twice -- around 1965 and then 1995. I've found a bunch of broke log chains, hooks, etc. Two axe heads and a splitting maul. Couple of horse shoes.
