The technology for toll roads is pretty cool and can capture a lot of information. The cameras can capture images at high speeds 120mph+ and can easily capture motorcycle tags etc. As of right now, the 540/147 is the only operating toll road in NC. I77 may/may not get the tolls installed as there is a HUGE resistance to adding the tolls. There has been talk of completing the road but deleting the toll requirements. Monroe bypass should be open by the end of year and will have the same tolling requirements as 540/147. There are also plans to add HOT lanes to 485 on the southern portion of the road. The toll roads in NC are in so much better shape than other highways as inspections and routine maintenance occur all the time. Now if we could only fix the other roads with the highway funding/gas taxes etc.
