I was still a Junior Volunteer Fireman, when we had an assist call at a Steel Foundry, one evening. Foundry ran 24 hours & melted scrap to make rebar. Seems the Crane accidentally carried some molten metal back to the scrap pile, setting it on fire. A lot of grease & oil was in / on that scrap. All we could do was "Surround & Drown"! It was winter, but the runoff water we stood in was Hot! Probably took 8 hours to put it out, what didn't burn up. My First experience of Burning Steel!
