Random Thoughts.....

I keep seeing this advertisement on Youtube about renting a house where the owners are there. I think it is a VRBO ad. Who the fuck does that? I have never and would never do that. I didn't even know that was a possibility. We have rented houses probably 2-3 times a year for MANY years for vacations.

VRBO is advertising that they are different than AirBnB cause the owner is never there with VRBO places.

AirBnB has an option to rent a room/space in a house while the owner is there (that's how they got started)

Airbnb offers options to rent just a room. Again, I wouldnt do it, but it has been there since the beginning.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the gym at my work hasn't been stupid packed with the New Years Resolution crowd this year. There are only a few new faces along with the usual cast of characters. Going to the gym typically completely sucks balls for the first few weeks every year.

It saddens me that all my people have just given up this year.

Guess people are finally just accepting reality

I'm liking section 2 that says they are changing to 40K before a permit is needed. I'm going to build another shed soon.

The $40k threshold is already in effect....that was new for 2024. Don't get excited because it doesn't negate the fact that you still need a permit for any structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, etc trades for any construction that involve them.

However, If I do work on a house that doesn't alter or affect those aspects ...as long as it's below the $40k limit no permit is needed. If that same job was over $40k, a permit would then be required, even if no permitted trades were used.

wonder if this could have been avoided had we kept enforcing minor traffic/vehicle infractions instead of caving to the loud minority?

Bare, 23, is charged with felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death. He also faces misdemeanor charges of death by vehicle, window tint violation, driving or allowing a vehicle to be driven without it being registered, no liability insurance and fictitious or altered title, registration card or tag. He also was cited for failure to reduce speed and driving with an expired or without registration.

wonder how out of date the license plate was?

I’m confused…
Abdirahman Bare was driving a 2007 Chevy Impala south on Raleigh Boulevard with a green light, police said.

Bare failed to reduce his speed and hit Richardson, according to the police.
Was she jaywalking? Sucks for both if that’s the case.

Its hard to imagine wtf you could do that costs $40k and doesn't involve any of those trades.

In fact I can't even think of what you might do that is under 40k that you would even think to pull a permit that doesn't involve any of those.

Basic updating cosemtic remodel....if no electrical, plumbing, and mechanical rough in are moved. Adds up quick nowadays, thats why they bumped it up from the $20k.

Or If you do a larger scale work even if its just painting, roofing, siding, etc and they total over that threshold they need permiting 🙄. And that is the limit for entire year for a property.....you do a $39999 job one month, you (technically) cant go back and do another job without permiting it. Or at least that's what they tell you in the mandatory CE classes every year. Not sure who's keeping up with that though.

yea...sucks she crossed on a green and met up with the Imapal criminal

Clearly the impala driver had less that zero regard for the law, your safety or my safety and has no doubt been a nuisance in the past......and we only react when the worst happens

My wife just made her first 2 loaves of homemade bread and ordered a home remedies book. Now she wants ducks and pressure cooker for canning. Send help lol.

oh there is no help buddy.

Yep. My wife started making all our bread back in October. We now have all sorts of bread making accoutrement and she is waking up at odd hours to take care of the dough. Honestly though the hobby is good for her and we all benefit from it :D

I also can't believe y'all DONT have a pressure cooker. One of the best tools in the kitchen!

It's just a he beginning if it really takes off.

Home made creams, butters, preserves, canned (well anything that will fit a jar). Experiments with home made mayonnaise, cottage cheeses, and mustards.

Your pretty familiar with the farm side, trust me you'll get nudges to spend every moment building a food empire.

The amount of use out Instapot gets us second only to the cast iron skillets

Good news is we already have the kitchenaide (best meat grinder for game imo). She started with white bread. To quote her "I've got 3 kids, ain't got time to babysit sourdough too", but I see it coming lol. Today was homemade cinnamon rolls. I'm with ya, she's happy, it's good healthy food, and it's "cheaper" (lol). We do have an instant pot, but I tend to freeze stuff rather than can. We canned everything (including water) growing up and it's a lot of hassle.

Oh I'm sure. But I'm here for it. She's already coming up with a million things to make. I'm all for being as self contained as possible. I've nudged her toward it for years and apparently she's finally decided it go time lol.

Agreed. Our instant pot and air fryer are our two most used appliances.
