Just thought I would pass along a piece of information, I just finished installing my X-series 4" inch rough country lift in my 97 wrangler. (Didn't get the skyjacker lift ordered before it went off sale) But I did get a pretty good deal for the RC lift through JC whitney with the 25% off they were offering.

But back to why I am posting, everything went smooth with the install until it was time to put in the rear shocks. The darn shocks were to big around they hit the spring pocket. It really sucked I had to use a BFH and reengineer the spring pocket to get clearance. But any ways just wanted to pass along the information to ya all just in case any one else was going to install one of these lifts.

It looks good though as soon as I get the new tires on I'll post some pics.

thats what happens when you buy a lift from JC Whitney. the quality of the kit is pretty good. just not when you buy it from a places that chops up the package.
could invert the shocks!? maybe?

That happens with any lift on a TJ over 3". That is why Rubicon express, 9Th Degree, and many others make shock shifter kits for the rear of the TJ.

yeah, shocks hitting the spring perch is common, you can get the brackets like stated or get the saw and cut about an inch off the back of the spring perch like i did.

I don't want to blame Jc whitney for this because they didn't ship the lift kit it was drop shipped directly from the factory. But after reading the other post I see this is a common problem and I just need to learn all the quirks with working with on modifications with a 4x4. It wasn't a problem because i only needed about a 1/8 of inch of clearance and BFH worked good and it really doesn't look bad.

Thanks

Thanks

you need a bit of room cause when it flexs the shock will make contact with perch

I was thinking the same thing about the clearance so I ordered a set of offset brackets today from Rubicon express. I haven't ordered the new tires yet so it'll be a while before I do any flexing with it.

Looks pretty ridiculous right now it has 30x9.50 tires on it with a 4 inch lift. Which actually turned into about a 4 3/4" lift when installed but I am sure it'll settle.
