I know that if you use a (long) extension on your torque wrench, that it doesn't actually apply the amount of torque set in the torque wrench. Is there a calculator for (finding out the CORRECT torque spec) when your using 6", 9" etc. extensions?

an extenion on the socket side shouldnt change the torque input much, its an extension on the handle (cheater bar) that drastically changes the torque value.

you will loose some torque input through the extension between the wrench and socket, how much im not sure.... and I dont know if it would be completely linear... and it does seem to be minimal is using a clicker type wrench

maybe if someone had a torque gauge similar to one used for setting up pinion gears, you could torque a bolt using your standard, and then measure it with the gauge...

so it ain't too much to worry about then?

I don't think the flexing of the extension is going to change the torque reading it would just change the position of the handle of the torque wrench relative to the position of the socket

i'd think it would only be a problem if you're working in real high torque, enough to where you could be twisting the shaft of the extnsion (like a torsion bar). But your typical 30 l application wouldn't do that.

And on the last page (page 9) of this one, specifically the second picture----> http://buy1.snapon.com/PRODUCTS/TORQUE/pdf/techwrench/TECHWRENCH INTERNET SITE.pdf
Because your extension is vertical, it makes no difference. When anything is used to adapt a torque wrench, as long as the fastener side lever is 90 degrees offset from the wrench, "torque a" will equal "torque b", no matter the length. There will be a minuscule loss of torque when using excessively long torque wrenches, however, for an automotive application, that amount will be negligible.

nothing we do is that critical.
Add 5lbs to the torque wrnech and rock on
