About to re gear my 90 xj. im thinkin of goin 4.56 cuz ill be upgrading my tires to 33's. But i need to know which brands ppl have had a good experience with cuz i want these gears to last. i have a d30 front and d35 rear, so do i need a new carrier for both?
Thx in advance!

x3, throw that D35 on craigslist or get your 10.5 cents per lb at the scrapyard. Grab a 29-spline C8.25 (97+ XJ) to directly bolt in or go 8.8 with minor fab in the rear.

and as far as carrier breaks, you didn't mention what ratio you have now (probably 3.55)
D30, 3.54 /3.73
D35, 3.31 /3.55
C8.25 none
F8.8 none

Best bang for the buck will be the ECGS house brand. Give us a shout and we will be happy to get you everything you need to regear.

Quality setup will do as much for the longevity as the gear type. Who is doing your setup?

some are 4.10 they are getting harder to find but definetly possible. you want ford explorer 96-2001 maybe 2002 disc brake Ford 8.8. they swapped to IRS in 02 or 03, and were drum brake pre 96. we have the bolt in options for XJ that we can regear for you.

4.56 is dynamite. when i run my 34s they do pretty good. good gearing if you do a lot of highway commute. 4.88 would be an interesting thought as the inline six doesn't mind revving over 2500rpm
