RE: shackles

I need help with my rear shackles. There is a J shaped piece buck riveted to the frame and the bottom of the shackle bolts inside of that and the leaf spring bolts to the top of the shackle. Is this normal 1/2 ton chevrolet equipment?? the reasson I aask is because I drive through my garden that I recently worked up and I broke my passenger side rear shackle the weld broke on it and stretched out (like it is unrolling) where it wraps around the bushing and bolt at the frame end of the shackle. I think I may have 3/4 ton leafs under my 1/2ton truck???

yeah that is the stock configuration... alotta people do a shackle flip in the rear to eliminate that setup, and change it to a typical compression style

any idea the cost in doing that conversion?

you can try looking over at carolinak5 or ck5.com, when i had a k5 i made my own for ~$30... ORD and some other companys sell them though...

Thanks guys for all your help. My last question, Does anyone know how many leafs are in a stock 1/2ton (1974 chevrolet) set I have 7 plus the overload. Thats what makes me think that my truck has 3/4ton leafs under it. they are ectremely thick.
