i have a 60 rear 35 spline Differential and Dana 70 rear axles
that are 35 spline,i'm putting all in a hd Dana 60, but they will not go in
can someone tell me what is the problem is thanks

When you say "not go in", what actually happens? Shaft engagement into the carrier, shaft length, etc? A few of the 70s were 32 spline.

the spline are 35 on both shaft and carrier ,Shaft engagement into the carrier all out of 90s f350 for the shafts and f250 for the carrier

Put the shafts to the micrometer test. The D60 shafts may be 1.31", as the D70 shafts are 1.5". Seems like a good reason for a bigger shaft not to go into a smaller carrier.

Scratch that, the 35 splines should be 1.5". Still 'mic them for good measure though.

how far do they go in? can you see them spline into the side spider gears? or do you have a locker? can you tell if they are engaging into the locker's gears?

make sure they fit into the carrier before you install the carrier.....

-Erik <--- runs 1.5" 35 spline chromo's and when i put them side by side against a set of dana 70 35 spline shafts i thought they looked to be the same lenth.... but it's been a while.... i could have been mistaken.

I saw Red's shafts "I know sounds kinda funny!!"

It looks like the D70 shafts are slightly larger than the spidergears. When I say slightly I mean less than .5mm.

They do not engage at all, yet both are 35 spline. Its got me stumped.

If it's just a hair bigger then it'll throw the spline pattern off.. making it not go in.

not sure how bad of an idea this is but i'll put it out there anyway.

toss the shafts int he freezer overnight.... then try to pop them in the side gears in the morning.... see if they shrunk enough to fit.

i wouldn't do that. i'm sure there would be some sort of major problem caused by this but if you were desperate it may be an option. it sure would suck when it came time to remove the shafts for whatever reason....
