Just had the axles regeared a couple months ago.....should this be normal or is this considered excessive?

Are those solid pieces or small particles clumped together by the magnet? If it is more of a powdered form clumped together probably OK but if those are solid pieces it would concern me. It is hard to tell from the pic.

Small particles but a LOT of them.

Looks normal for a new set up to me.

Which reminds me I need to flush my break in...

Damn 7.5 quarts of gear oil...

7.5 quarts?! Holy shitballs....AAM 11.5 with a high capacity diff cover? Or....a Rockwell? :D

How long do yall run your new setups before flushing?

I've always broken mine in with 200 mile intervals. Easy 200, change fluid, easy 200, change fluid, after that you're good. And yes that's normal. Last thing you want to see is heat marks on the gears and burnt oil.I can show you two axle sets that I did years and years ago with close to 100k brutal miles on the oldest set and they look exceptionally good. I tend to be a little to careful with break-ins, but why not?

how do new car manufacturers get away with telling us that no break in preiod is required? just drive it?

There's been many many arguments on that very subject for years. Only conclusion I can come up with is that OEM gears don't come in a Yukon box.

Sad part is, at least Yukon puts their name on them. I've cracked open a few diffs that didn't have anything stamped on there except the number of teeth.
