Rear/mid engine buggy question

I see all of these rear/mid engine buggies being built, when you turn the motor around and mount them in reverse (facing out the back). Are the gears reverse cut in the axles or t-case since the engine is theoretically now spinning opposite direction for being mounted 180 degrees from pointing forward or are the gears in the trans just working opposite-like to go forward is reverse gear in the trans, and to go in reverse is drive or am i just over thinking this. This is just a question, that has been bouncing around for awhile.
 
I think that you flip the axles. Imagine a low pinion passenger drop chevy flipped over so it becomes a high pinion drivers side drop.
 
yes, you have to flip the axles upside down to get the vehicle going forward. However, there is a little more to just flipping the axles. You should consider oiling, etc. so that you don't burn up bearings, pinion bearings specifically.

you also may haveto consider making sure the knuckles are flipped 180*
