I'm new to jeeps and 4 wheeling.

Want to install a rear sway bar to help limit swaying and rolling on the road.

Any quick directions to install + recommendations on aftermkt sway bars would be great

Does yours still have the factory rear sway bar? It doenst do much, but should give you an idea how a thicker aftermarket bar would mount. I can't say that I've ever seen/heard of or looked for an aftermarket rear XJ sway bar though.

Do you not have the OEM one on there now? If not I would try putting that back on first. Really can't tell much difference with it off IMO but I think I have one laying around here if you don't have one and want to try it.

Sway Bar

Thanks for the feedback.

Crawled under the XJ and there is a rear sway bar. Looking at replacing it w/ an aftermkt...maybe hellwig or addco. Tks dougb

FWIW if you are new to 4x4s and Jeeps, etc. but come from the tuner or hot rod market, dont expect to get car like handling...they are top heavy...you can stiffen it to a point but if you drive them on the road like a car you have a good chance to wind up on your roof

the rear sway bar is usually the first part pulled off an XJ and thrown away. Unless you are towing with it or trying to drive it like an import tuner car they really don't do much other than limit rear travel off road.

Just my $.02

X2..
If you actually plan on taking this offroad, a rear swaybar will cause you more trouble than its worth and you won't be able to tell much difference on road if you upgrade from the stock or remove it completely. It's a top heavy SUV, the body roll isn't going to go away.

How old are the shocks. If they are dead if will have a lot of body roll.
