I'm going to build a rear bumper for a Samurai soon and will likely use some 4" square tubing, 1/4" wall.

What types of brake, turn, and reverse lights do you folks use in an application like this? I want them to be flush with the bumper or even recessed so they won't break so easily. If all else fails I could torch out a big hole in the bumper to use the factory Samurai lights, but would rather not do that if possible.

Are there any vendors that have good selections of lights like these?

I put these in the tailgate on my Sami.

Those oval lights look like they'd be good. Most of the ones I've seen were the grommet mount type. You mention a tail light converter - care to elaborate a little more on that? I was going to run all these into weatherpack connectors and splice into the factory harness.

This isn't even my truck (Christmas present for brother) so I don't have it in the garage yet. Is there anything on a Samurai that prevents you from using a single light for stop/turn and running lights? The Rocky Road website is worded to make you think there is something preventing you from running one light per side.

How about reverse lights? I've seen people use those generic tractor post mount lights where you drill a hole and bolt a stud into a bumper and would use those if I had to. I'd rather use something flush in the bumper. Ideas?

If I recall correctly, Toyota forklifts have some rectangle flush mount lights with turn signals in them. Look around for those, they may work well for you. the round is nice, but may be too big for your 4" square tube bumpers.

If you do want those "silly grommet style" lights search for "trucklights" brand on the net or I can get most anything you can imagine through work--plain ol bulbs, l.e.d.s or strobes, halogens........you get the point. Personally though Northern Tool, Tractorsupply, Flowers (Napa), or even theAdvance/Auto idiots should be able to help you out.

The Sammi uses a seperate bulb for turn signals. If you get what's called a "trailer taillight converter", it combines the stop/tail and turn functions into one light. Otherwise you have to run two lights per side, plus reverse. You can get small grommet mount reverse lights through the parts store, but I haven't found a flush-mount bolt-on reverse light yet. Northern should have the taillight converter for about $15, and it's pretty easy to wire in if you have the Sammi diagram or a multimeter and basic electrical skills. And if you go with LEDs, you'll have to get an electronic flasher to compensate for the lower load. The local parts house should be able to get the part number for you. Ask for a flasher, and the computer should bring up both the standard and electronic units, the electronic being about $13.

The Advance on 16 right there in Denver should have the round ones. If not, I think the equipment rental place on 16 may have them. I think I remember seeing them in there. Its been a while ago, so I may could be wrong...

you can also go to Redneck Trailer Supply in Lincolnton. They are a good place to buy or find anything for trailers and the such.

the oval lights for trailers from northern work good. they have a metal bracket there too that you can weld on and it holds in the light with the rubber gromet. Or step up and get the led's.
