My blazer had a 4 inch body lift on it when I bought it. I want to remove the body lift but Im concerned with a few things. What am I going to have to do to the steering column, gear shifter (auto) and transfer case shifter? Can everything be ajusted to go lower or do you think the guy that put the lift on had to do some fabricating and special work to get all these parts to work with the lift? Thanks!

Im not sure about a blazer but most of the body lift kits Ive seen have a weld on spacer for the trans linkages and a splined extension for the steering. Some trucks dont even have the steering extension but Im guessing since your lift is so big that it will have one. It should just slide roght off unless your previous owner did something screwy. The welds on the shift linkage should be fairly obvios, just cut them and weld the two ends back together..be sure to sleeve it. If you dont feel like messing with that just grab a linkage out of a junkyard, thats what I'd do it just looks better that way. The T-case shifter shouldnt be a problem, it should just stick up out of the floor more than it used to. Hope this helps.

He had a 4" body lift on it?! That's crazy! I can see why you want to take it off. TheGeneral made some good points, and I agree with him about going to the j/y and getting a new transmission linkage, but the t-case shifter linkage will have to be readjusted again. You should be good at this after your last adventure.

To take it off, follow this little check list:

Remove:
Fan shroud
Gas filler hose extension (if applicable)
Steering linkage
Transmission linkage
T-case linkage
Front bumper (unless you have an aftermarket bumper)

All work should be done one side at a time unless you have a two or four post lift. Loosen all of the body mounts, but do not remove any of the bolts yet. When you're ready to lift either the driver's or passenger's side (which ever side you start on first), only remove that side's corresponding bolts.

As you are lowering the body, have a friend pay special attention to the flex coils on the brake lines leading from the master cylinder to the frame. You don't want to kink the lines at the MC. Have your friend "squash" the coil back together, but don't totally flatten it. There should be roughly 1/2-3/4" clearance between each spiral of the lines.

After the body is resting on the factory mounts, secure it loosely with the factory bolts, then proceed to the other side. Bolt everything down tight, adjust everything, hook up the filler hose if you had to disconnect it, then double check all the body mounts to make sure they're tight.

I don't know what to tell you on the steering linkage though. If you question it, a used one from the j/y shouldn't cost more than $25.

You've still got my # if you need me.

Hey David - you know I have cheap parts. :) Let me know if you find that you need to replace any parts (like steering linkage), and I might have the stuff on a truck I'm going to scrap.

Will do. I should be able to come pick up that axle this weekend so let me know when you will be around. It will most likely be Saturday after 4 and sunday anytime when I will be free.
