Ive been feeling/hearing a familiar grinding coming from somewhere on the truck while braking. The last time I checked my front disc pads they were good so I think its the rear brakes. I pulled the drum off one side with no isues, but the other side wont come off. I cant come in through the window on the backing plate and loosten the adjuster wheel because it has a locking tab. Should I just try beating the drum with a bigger hammer?

No dont use a big hammer. Use a small 90* pick tool, or whatever you can get in there to push the lock off the star wheel. then back it off. Pain in the ars but it can be done.

you also have two pins that have flat backs on them that hold the shoes in place cut the back off them and it will allow the shoes to move more and can get the drum offthat way

How do I get to the pins to cut them off?

Jeff, I didnt see the lock tab when looking through the window but I will take a closer look this evening and try that.

Hammer and chisel will work they will look almost like a rivet

The lock tab is behind the adjuster. needs to be pushed off the wheel.

They are on the backing plate right where the hole is that you see the adjusted threw

Sometimes the drum is rusted to the center of the hub and shoes have nothing to do with it being stuck. In that case a big hammer beating it towards the pumkin until it pops loose.

Depends on what vehicle this is on, but some imports have threaded holes in the face of the drum. When you put bolts in and tighten, it pushes the drum off the center hub facing.
