rent a crapcan car

I think I read this wrong, but it seems like a serious ripoff if I didn't.

Yeah, I'm not sure how the economics of that work out... for example, in LeMons, you can't spend more than $500 on the car, not counting safety equipment. Granted, safety equipment makes up the vast majority of your investment, especially so if you're paying someone labor to build the cage.

Maybe there are folks out there that just want a turn-key experience, but I'm not sure why those guys would be interested in shitbox racing... where the real appeal is... well, in building and racing your own shitbox.

That's EXACTLY it. There are a lot of guys that just want to race, think it would be a lot of fun to drive - but don't knwo ahit about the actual building/repairing part, or simply don't have access to the tools/skills/space/buddies to do it themselves.
not everybody likes the sweat and work involved in the build, some people would rather just drive.

Shit, if I had the money, i'd do this.

Im just saying I wouldn't pay 5000 dollars for 1 race, any idiot could go by a 500 dollar piece of shit and have all the labor they want done for 4500 bucks (realistically)
