I just picked up a Saginaw 3 speed with a Borg Warner R10 overdrive and someone busted the cap off the governor at some point. Everything works and the centrifugal weights push the shaft up when the gear is rotated...just wondering if there's any way to fix a cap with a contact in it or if it's more complicated than what I'm imagining. Simple fix is to buy a new governor, but I'm cheap and I'd rather not pay twice as much for that than I paid for the whole transmission.

Here's what I got:

Here's the bottom of a cap from another slightly different governor, but same principle is used.

Yea that's all you have to do, Fab up a cap with a switch in it. All it has to do is ground a relay that powers the shift solenoid once the vehicle hits 25-30 mph. Technically you could even do it with a GPS unit that would engage the relay at a set speed and not use the governor at all.

GPS would be slick  I could just put a switch to the solenoid to bypass the governor, but I hear bad things happen if you forget to disengage it and try to shift into first gear....which I would most definitely do at some point.
