2 questions.
1 - Got a line on a deal for some 33x12.5 Procomp Xterrains.

Pro Comp states 8.5-10,5" wheel. Could they actually fit on smaller? E.g. 7" or is that just really pushing it on the sidewalls?

2 - spare rims I have are AL/alloy. I like the idea of keeping as light possible, since this is a front-locked IFS Toy w/ whopping 130hp. What's the big downside to running AL over steel, assuming I'm not bothered by scratches?

1. a lot of peaople think running tires on skinny rims help keep the bead seated. i ran 33x12.50's on 7" rims for a long time with no problems.
2. aluminum rims may break instead of just bending.

I also ran 33x12.5 BFG ATs on 7" wheels on my CJ. The center tread will wear quicker, even if you run low on air pressure. I tried to stay around 25-28psi on the street, and the center tread still wore out, the edges had plenty of tread. Offroad I would air down to 10-12psi and never lost a bead though.

8" is perfect, but 7" will be ok. Get steel rims. The weight is about the same. Steel is thin and aluminum is thick. Aluminum is not good for offroad for many reasons.

Yeah, don't worry about it. There are a lot of people that run 18.5" wide 44" TSLs on H1 rims without a problem.

And how is your tire wear with your TSL's on H1's?

Chances are there's a slight difference in the street usage of a rig on 33's vs one on 44's.

I personally can't vouch for the 44... I'm running a 39.5x13.5" wide tire on an H1, however. Granted, I don't drive it on the road and IROKs typically have a balloon-looking tread anyways.

Ran 33x12.5 for YEARS on 15x7.5 stock Ford rims and never had an issue.

you should be fine ratlabguy,

I'm currently running a 19.5" wide tire on a 9.75" wide wheel with no wear effects, especially since I have the air pressure adjusted correctly.

Also for several years I ran a 13.50 wide tire on a 8" wide wheel and those tires have over 40k miles on them, worn completely evenly.

aluminum alloy tends to chip or break off when it hits a rock (or curb). i used to buy AL/alloy rims back when i thought shiny stuff was cool. i didnt even wheel hard back then and i still had issues with breaking the rim lips off. well, mostly with the cheap pacer rims i was buying, mickey thompson didnt give me too much trouble. factory ford sucked too.\

oh....and the wider tires will be fine. check your back spacing though. sometimes the balloonage on the inside of the rim causes some clearance issues when making tight turns.

I ran steel (15 X 7.75) then went to aluminum (15 x 10).

The wider aluminum wheel was 15 lbs or so lighter than the steel.

I don't beat on it, so strength is not an issue for me.
