I'm looking for some river rock sources around Hickory and Charlotte area.

I'm building a fire pit and want to use football sized river rock. Not 100% sure how much I'll need but the rock here in eastern NC is quite pricey. I'm heading west later this week and could pick some up if someone has a good, affordable source

There is a place in King you can get the leftovers of rock that they cut in thin pieces for $10/load (you load it yourself). It's not smooth or anything, but it is nice looking rock and you can take anything you see really, as long as it's not the good rock they haven't busted up yet. There are some pieces it takes a few guys to move that I have gotten.

Rob, not sure of the price, but sigmons bark and mulch on springs road used to have river rock. There is also a new little lanscaping supply place on hwy. 16 just north of rides.

Damn cant beleave you pay for this stuff I just go to the river and pick some up if I need to.

Sigmons wants big $$$ for theirs at least when I was looking last summer. I brought 9 loads down from Jefferson that I found. Only cost gas, time and one set of Tacoma leaf springs:shaking:

thats just a little illegal now :D

Thanks. I'm in no hurry but it would be nice to have some soon for a fall fire pit :)

I think I can get a pallet of it (2000lbs) for about $275 down here. Thats more than I need but would consider it if I can't really find any for less

That sound about right. I think I paid just over $200/ton for huggable boulders back in the spring.

Since when is illegal to pick up rocks out of a stream or river? Ive done it all my life some I had to move with a bobcat

I used to do the same thing but have recently been told that its now a big no-no unless you are "approved" to do it. Something about too many people (and companies) doing it destroying rivers and the habitat, etc.

to be honest, I can't blame the state for doing someting about it.

I don't know what the law is but I was told by numerous people that its illegal now

yup. harvest your own. it's legal.

edit: by hand. no machines or equipment in the river(s).
