Rochester 2G Carb woes

Hi guys,

not truck related but hopefully someone here has some experience with something similar.

I have a boat that i recently picked up from a member here that is giving me fits. It has an OMC 3.0l in it which is a marinized variant of the old GM 153ci 4 cylinder from the late 60s (think Chevy II, this is pre iron duke). It has a points distributor and a Rochester 2G carburetor.

When i got it, i was told that it was running rough on the top end. I pulled the carb off and ordered a rebuild kit for it thinking that was the issue. I did find a few passages that were plugged up in the carb as well as in the venturi cluster so i assumed i had found the issue.

When i put it back on the boat it still ran like shit. it starts and idles OK, has around 400mbar of vacuum at idle but it wont rev at all. there is raw gas dripping from the venturis when you try to rev it. I have pulled the carb back off and rechecked everything (including float height) several times and i cant find anything wrong with it.

Thoughts? does anyone have another 2g from a jeep or something laying around i could try?
