So when I took it apart, there was a single strand of safety wire going through all 8 bull gear bolts. certainly not the best setup, but it would *help* prevent the nut from coming off.
When re-assembling, the aircraft mechanic in me took over, and I did this:
But, I don't think it's really helping much. If the hole was in the bolt head, then OK.. But it wasn't doing much to prevent the nuts from loosening. In fact, the wire was pulling the bolts in a loosening direction.
So, I cut the wire off, and did this instead of re-doing the safety wire...
Now I know, 3 bolts max for safety wire, and the cotter pin head should always point to the source of the forces, or int he direction of rotation.. but I still think they won't go anywhere.
Just food for thought, though - I don't think the wire is the best bet.
