Alright so I was driving my jeep last night and I drove about 500 feet, stopped had a word with one of my friends and continued to drive another 100 or so feet. I let off the gas to turn around and the rpms drop and it shuts off. not just shut off, but kinda slowly shut off. I start it back up and continue to turn around and drive, I drive another min and it does the same thing. Also whenever im giving it gas itll lose power drastically and kinda jerk back and forth. This is the first time ive driven it since the swimming accident and it didnt do it before that. I havnt pulled the spark plugs yet, was planning on doing that tomorrow and checking the gap and such. Whenever it starts to lose power I can disengage the clutch and rev it and it will go up then come back down and sputter and cut off. It will idle under its own power for about 2 min and then do the same thing. its the 86 2.8 V6 cherokee
Ryan

Well it was just rebuilt not long ago, and it never did it before I got it stuck for so long

I thought about maybe something with my gas, I drove it again today and it did it alot less, only like twice or so, but it was a pita to get it started and running, and it idled on its own for about 10 min, which is longer than last night, Maybe it will drive out, im trying to go get it inspected tomorrow so Ill be up all night getting the last bit done, hope it drives tomorrow :( and yeah Austin, i changed my diff fluids, checked my oil, the oil was running clean. Im getting the transmission flushed and transfercase changed also

It sounds like there is some kind of gas line problem. I had a toyota car once it had water in the gas line and would clogg the filter. Find the fuel filter shake the topside towards the ground. If water seperates then you need a new one.

So you're driving it with the old transmission and transfer case fluid in it? (BTW, the t-case is easier than your diffs to change the fluid in)

A very, VERY bad idea. Guy with a TJ had his junk sunk overnight. Drove only a few miles, wound up having to re-build the tranny. Don't say we didn't warn ya

I know, I really need to change it, but I dont know how to and my father is outta town for the week, Im taking it up to the shop up the street and seeing if they can fix whats wrong with it, with furnature market in town ive been swomped with work and school and im just exhausted. But I will also get them to change the transmission fluid. I can probably change the transfercase fluid myslef, Ill have to look in my service manual and see if that can help me
