I am going to redo the suspension on my yota. Right now I have rears up front and dakota springs in the rear. I am going to probly run some zero lift alcan springs to start since I am in the process of a 350/th400.203/205 swap. Its sitting on tons and 40s now. I am just wondering if anyone has ran the shackles in the front on a first gen yota instead of the factory shackle reverse. Im going to french in all the mounts front and rear and run short shackles. The rear will be very easy to do. I am just looking for input on the front set up and what people think. I dont want to get into a "which is better" debate. I just want to get my yota as low as possible on leaf springs.. Any input?

I was thinknig bout doing this with my 4runner when i do my solid axle swap. I have only seen one rig do it, and it was a 2nd generation 4runner. I am in the same boat i do not want to go super tall and all the swap kits are spring over and big lift, i am thinking doing spring under. It is not a very popular thing, sicne everyone just buys a kit and goes big and spring over. On Yotatech i had a guy bashing me for asking about it. I was refering to the shackle in the rear as a shackle reversal and he was trying to bash me for not knowing a thing. For me being a jeep person, it is known as a shackle reverssal when they are in the back, and i didnt know how the factory setup was. Oh well. Look at www.yotatech.com and search for spring under, there are a few threads, but it isnt that common. I am interested to what you find out.

Nothing on my rig is kit. Just cold beer drinking fab work! I have some ideas of a front winch mount with the shackle mounts built in that will sit above the frame and the shackles will pivot with the frame rails between them, just mounted on top of the frame...if that makes any since.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Jeeps have been doing it for years, so I guess a yota could too.

I may have read the thread wrong, but are you talking about putting them on the frontside of the rear spring too?

no not at all. the shackles will be normal, you cant run shackles on both ends of a spring without some kind of link system. The rear really isnt in question. I am more less asking if anyone has ran the shackles in the front on a yota instead of keeping the stock setup to help with lowering the vehicle. I dont really know what to do about the offset of the leaf springs to the frame since I am running tons. RIght now I have the usual offset shackles...
