I'm a Zuk guy, and my only real exposure to lift kits and accessories has been with a solid axle vehicle.

A friend of mine has purchased a nice 91 S-10 4x4. He's running 235's right now, but is interested in a decent 2 inch or 3 inch lift so he could run 30's or 31's...nothing special.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sell it and buy something worth lifting. S-10's are very tough to get aftermarket support from, and they do not handle lifts and bigger tires well.

Not that I do not disagree with you on the support part but i ran mine with the 2 inch kit from RC and never broke a shaft or wore out a steering part running 31s.
I do agree its tough on parts but its also a matter of how much hell your gonna put it through.

Personally I wouldn't lift anything but a Chevy, it's been the real deal for ever. (proven) What I like about S10s is that if yer not a big guy you can see around them really good, and the 4.3(which has tons of aftermarket support). As far as a lift, lots of ways to do it on a budget or go all out with a 6" suspension and 3" body. My suggestion would be a SAS with a D30 and Ranger 8.8 but thats just me. I can tell you this, all the info you could possibly need on an S10 you can find over at S10 extremist.org. See ya on the trail...

You should be ok with just 31's with that weak 7.2 IFS with light wheeln.

I tried to wheel my S10 with 33's and ended up busting the front diff and a few other parts as well.

I tried everything in the book to beef the 7.2 up I used the bravada 1 piece passenger axle and got rid of the 2 piece slide gear crap. Found a cast iron diff out of a 98 ZR2 with a stick shift. Used 1ton GM idler arm and pitman arm setup. Then ended up ripping the teeth off the front ring gear.

I would have to say that if you intend to do any hard wheeln with it save your money and buy a jeep. Or go crazy like me and SFA that thing.

Dont bother with the Rough Country kit. You can gain the same lift from just cranking the t-bars (if they are not wore out...) Just do the bodylift and crank the t-bars (but not maxed out) then purchase a set of lift shackles for the rear. Like crusty said, I wouldn't go much larger than 31-32's at most. However, I would go with this kit for the s-10 before I did anything with the IFS.

This will get him into your familiar solid axle category.
