Where do you take something that needs sandblasting in the Raleigh area?
The something I have is AMC exhaust manifolds. No flaking, just as nice coat of rust but they have too many nooks and crannies to wire brush. I plan to paint them.
i worked at a paint/powder coat shop for a little while a few summers back and they would do sandblasting. i'm not even sure if they're still in business but it's called top-coat inc. and it's off glenwood ave. going out towards airport area. if you're coming out of raleigh you would turn right where that biker's blvd. place is
you can buy a sandblaster gun w/ a nozzle and pickup hose @ wal mart for $15, its good for little things like you're doing. Just wear heavy clothes, gloves, and a motocycle helmet
If you feel like making a trip to WF. Your welcome to use my sand blasting cabinet. Swing by Northern Tool and grab a bag of black abrasive media and a 6 pack of beer and have at it...
Just have to listen to my air compressor and vacume run....
Thanks Mike and everyone who responded. I think I have someone who I will be endebted to for helping me out on this one. I'll let you know if things change.

Good well intentioned point. I probably would not want to do this without an enclosure, but the thought is good. $15 isn't bad price for something that you might use occassionally. The cheap cabinets at Northern were like $150. Lets say you could make one out of plywood (say a $30 sheet) and some plexy ($20), cut some holes and use welding gloves, your still talking $65 plus media. Then again, its probly like most other tool justificatiions, you would use it more if you had it handy.
it sounds like you may have a source lined up but i thought i'd mention the shop i work at has a sandblasting cabinet. would be glad to help ya out. we're just off of glenwood, by carmax.
Big mac and everyone thanks. I just took it to Carquest on Germantown road in Raleigh. I had 4 of the hollow air injection bolts broken off in the cast iron manifold (2 that were just plugged for the longest time and 2 that I freshly twisted off this weekend). I needed a machine shop to drill them out, so I just had them blasted while there and it was only $20. They came out real shiny! Just need to put some paint on um (starting new thread for Manifold paint)
