That's odd! It was also brought to my attention by MtnYJ who keeps up with Land Use pretty well. Rec Specialist Terry Savery said at the workday this past Sat, 17th, that the work is in progress?

Did she say they HAD to START on/by Monday because of funding/grant monies?

I think that's what I heard, I wonder if weather or something else monkeywrenched it.

I would have gone out there moved 1 shovel full of dirt and said 'We started', LOL.

Putting on my Smokey hat and thinking like a govt employee, "If we don't do the reroute it will give us much more reason to close the entire trail or the entire OHV area!"

I can see it. Tax revenues are down. And all non essential stuff will get cut first. (I work for the state and have been told my next years budget will SUCK OUT LOUD) so federal can't be much better.

Any one know some good malls to crawl?

Rec Specialist Savery's reply to my email on this issue:

"That should have said that it's completed and getting set for implementation. I think that is a typo by the folks that updated the projects listings. I'll send a message to the folks in Asheville and have them correct it. The reroute started yesterday and should be done by Friday or early next week. Thanks for letting me know of this mistake."

She seemed really upbeat about it at the workday and the canceled made no sense, but then its the gubment so who knows.

Good to know.

Ranger Walker replied also:

"From what I recall the project was accidentally listed twice, so we had to cancel one listing. Check to see if there is another listing that shows completed."

A little more from Terry Savery:

On the Saw Mill Trail reroute this is a mistake. The project is not cancelled it has been decided and we began implementation this week. In fact, I was out there with the contractors all day on Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. Saw Mill Trail is closed during this week and next week until the reroute is completed. I think there was a typo or the wrong button was clicked on for the last update.

Its good to get some official word on it, at least now we know for sure. . .

I just figured I would post up her final tidbit that she shared, it gives a time schedule for when the re-route will be done also. So people know when to expect the trail open again.
