Not sure if this belongs here or general but its two parts
Im a jeep guy dont know :poop: about scouts.

part 1
quick lesson on the goods and bads of scouts

and part 2

I have a 72 f100 4x4 360 granny 4spd that is in very great shape for a old ford.
Had a guy offer to trade me a 75 scout. Here is all the info I have at the moment.

It has Dana 44 axles and is Positive Traction rear and frontends.
Dana 20 Transfer case
Low geared 4 speed transmission (4:10 ratio)
31x11 Super Sport a/t tires.
Original International Lockers
International 345ci V8 engine with a 2 barrel carb.
Dual straight pipe with glass packs
New breaks all the way around
Fresh Oil and oil filter
New air filter
Needs a little body work.
Black seat covers.
And minor bumper damage.

think its a good deal? I could care less about looks!

here is my ford, cant get the scout pic to work. ill get it up tomorrw

I would stick with the ford but the scout has Dana 44 axles and is Positive Traction rear and frontends. Dana 20 Transfer case and a Low geared 4 speed transmission (4:10 ratio). What kinda of shape is the 345cid in and does it have a top with it? I'm not a fan of the scout engines. I do like the f100 is it long or short Wheel base? The ford has the D44 and the 9" is it locked or open?

The following is just my opinion and you are getting what you paid for it ;):

The good:
Good platform for an offroad rig
Stout parts
Almost perfect wheelbase
Decent aftermarket, so you can find just about anything you need
Binderplanet.com is an excellent source of information. All your questions (present and future) have been answered there

The bad:
Prone to rust, especially in the rockers, quarters, and floorboards around the body mounts
Stout parts (i.e. heavy)
Doesn't have the aftermarket saturation that Jeeps and Fords have
Did I mention rust?
If stock axles, then you have 0* caster in the front axle (1980 D44 front axles came with 2* caster, I believe)
Getting parts requires planning some times as many parts stores don't carry Scout-specifc parts, so you may have to order and wait. Walker Auto (formerly Napa) is a good place to start, though.

As for the 75 in question, I do not believe that IH put lockers front and rear in their Scouts. I could be wrong but I think that they only put LSD in the rear and the fronts were open.

If your transmission is the T-19 wide, then you have a 6.32 1st granny gear (synchro) whereas the T-19 close gives you a 4.02 1st (synchro). There is also a chance that you have a T-18, which has the same ratios as the T-19 close. Your D20 x-case will be 2:1 low, unless the OP put in a TeraLow gear in there (which would give you a 4:1 low). Other than that, I am of no use. Getting info from Scoutosis on this board or visiting Binderplanet.com will get you more in-depth info.

As for trading, I guess it boils down to what your plans are for the F100 and/or the Scout. If you are looking to 'wheel either one, I would go with the Scout. If you want to do a resto-mod and make them DD's or just road queens, then I would stick with the Ford.

YMMV

Didint give much info on the engine adn it has a top
and the truck is short bed

The original plan for the ford was the skyjacker 9" kit and 40s
but I want something to play with that will do good off road( I miss my yj too much and he wont sell it back to me)

as said, be sure to double check that it is d44 front and not d30. im pretty sure you couldnt get lockers from IH stock, limited slip rear was about it... Id check to see that it is discs up front and open knuckle (should be)... I would look over and under it for rust, scouts are rust buckets...

that being said, the scouts are a good platform to start with... axle swaps are easy, but they dont make a whole lot of power, and stock parts are more rare and different then ford, chevy, jeep....

Thanks guys, i think im gonna keep my truck and keep botherin my friend untill he sells me my yj back.

good choice as far as parts supply. Im a scout guy my dad wheeled scouts in mud and rocks. It would be a lsd rear. Not sure on parts for the scout my dad bought scouts from the 800 to the travelall...so he just swapped broken parts and kept 2 running. uniqueness and just plain fun Id take the scout but your choice.
