Anybody know what scrap metal brings by the ton? I have a deal through some local walmarts to go and clean out old scrap and have a couple ton of scrap. Just wondering what I was looking at now. I figure somebody on here knows a little more than I do.

TIA

depends a lot on what type of metal, and how it is prepared. Where I sell they have "prepared" and "unprepared" -- prepared is cut to no larger than 2x2'. Also different prices for heavy vs. light (i.e. sheetmetal vs. plate steel.

They buy by the CWT - which means "hundred weight" or 100 pounds. Last unprepared light steel I sold brought in $5.00-ish per CWT. I had about 1600lbs = 16CWT = $80.00 in my pocket.

Gotta be careful with what is mixed in -- friend sold some scrap aluminum, but it was frames put together with steel rivets. He would have gotten much more money if he had cut out the rivets, but then time=money, and it would not have been worthwhile.

Biggest part of what I have is shelving and wire gratting. Old buggies out the Ying Yang, pallet jacks, large metal racks.

Aren't most buggies at Walmart plastic with a metal frame? You'll have to separate the plastic from the metal. Probably have to pay to dispose of the plastic waste.

If they're metal buggies like grocery stores have, you'll probably have to crush/flatten them before recycler will take them, and remove plastic/rubber like handle, wheels, etc.

Same for the pallet jacks -- you'll have to drain the hydraulic portion and pay to have the hyd. oil hauled off (at hazmat rates). Unless you have 500gallons, then you may be able to get somebody like Noble to buy it from you (or at least haul it off n/c).

If you get the scrappings, post up some of the shelves for sale. I am sure alot of folks could use some good shelves, cheap.

I am sure you could make much more than scrap prices too.

I could use some of the wire grating depending on the size and I would like to have a pallet jack as well. If you decide to try to sell the stuff before you scrap it shoot me a pm.

just took a bunch of stuff like that, and C and W cores in thomasville paid 6.00 per hundred pounds for #2 steel, clean brings even more.

i just got $350 for 4000# this morning. Anyone near hear have a way to haul some junk off, my trailors not available for a few days. Anyone close by that can help I will split the money
