What do y'all think of Whale Wars?I like it.As a conservative,I may lean the wrong way on this but I am interested in the conservation of Animals as well as preservation of habitats,to a reasonable extent.Plus I like the whole "Justice" aspect of it.They are enforcing a treaty that is not being enforced by the country's that signed it.Much like America not enforcing Immigration Law.Anyways I have followed the news on it intently this year as it seems like the Japanese whalers are going out of business. Here are links of course.

I think they are terrorists. I read somewhere that one whale has as much meat as 1200 cattle. Plus the meat looks really red. Im sure the hindus or whoever are pissed off about us mass slaughtering cows. If the anti-whalers would dedicate as much time and money to whale farming or breeding as they do messing with the whalers we could all be eating shamu burgers tonight

Shamu burger sounds good... Id feel even better eating one while watching the hippies wave there signs outside the building.

I think they are terrorists.
I think they are just Extremist, and idiots. Who the hell parks a million dollar speed boat in front a boat captained by someone who really doesn't give a fawk about their views.

by that logic, we should stop killing cows and go after whales? I 'm gonna go out on a limb and say there's a Still a shit load more cow meat roaming the terra firma than whale meat swimming in the oceans.

Dont take me as a cow hater just sayin we could diversify our palettes

i'd eat dolphin
I wouldn't recommend that.Bottle nose Dolphin carry Mercury Levels at around 6.622 ppm.The health ministry for fish and shellfish set the "safe" level at 0.3 ppm.So that's 20 times more than a "safe" level.
Lead Poisoning is thought to cause Minamata Disease. The disease causes spasms, sensory loss and limb malformations in newborns and can be fatal.

I think they are terrorists.:
Fact.
And not just according to me, according to the US Gov't.
Just like PETA.

Also fact!

I loled when their boat got run over.
Serves them right.

And FYI the actual fact is, nothing going on is outside of the Treaty, BESIDES what these idiots are doing.

you think they are terrorist? are you shitting me? do you know who is the ones breaking the law here? it is pretty apparant that you have no clue what is going on here.

My point is this, if you want to save the whales, do something constructive not make a tv show of you being a dick to some guys who are just fishing. I know it might be unrealistic to have scuba-divers with test tubes impregnating whales but there has got to be something better than crash boats and whine. And I looked in to having whale meat imported and it seems it would be cheaper to fly somewhere its legal. As far as the legality of the whalers or the terrorists, you are correct sir I have no idea. If I watch too much of the show i would be supporting their cause.

ding ding ding! once again, ratlabguy is one of the few people here who actually has a clue what they are talking about and not shooting from the hip.

Terrorists! The whales they hunt are NOT endangered. In fact Artic Minke have a population estamated any where from 750,000 to well over one million. They have a quota of around 1500 that they want.

"funded" by Bob Barker

I read an article end of last year that said that they intentionally sunk the Ady Gil for TV sake. That it did sustain damage, but it was still afloat. The capt. went into it and destroyed to make a point. Afterwards the whole show washed their hands of him. Extremist that have a lot of money funded to them to hassle a bunch of people trying to make a living.

People die everyday from unclean drinking water, go do something about that!

Good luck with farming whales.
Whale meat is fatty and oily from what I've heard. Most Japanese don't even like it. It's a holdover from the post-WWII days when they had to eat whale meat to survive.

Who the hell parks a million dollar speed boat in front a boat captained by someone who really doesn't give a fawk about their views.

I don't know what video you saw, but it looked to me as if the whaling boat turned towards them as it listed. Furthermore, the Ady Gil was on the right and therefore had right of way. "Right or wrong" aside, that captain should have been charged from a legal perspective IMO.

They're very proud of their history of ramming and scuttling ships.

The first direct action undertaken by Sea Shepherd was against Canadian seal hunting in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in March 1979.[8][9] Also in 1979, the group made headlines when they rammed a whaling vessel for the first time.[10] Such acts continued with Sea Shepherd claiming responsibility for damaging or sinking multiple whaling vessels through sabotage or ramming. The group has attempted to intervene against Russian, Spanish, Norwegian, Icelandic, Makah, Faroese, and Japanese whalers in multiple campaigns around the globe.[1][5] Setting a pattern that the group would keep up in later years, the group managed to scuttle a Portuguese whaling vessel, though the first Sea Shepherd was impounded and lost. Watson describes that he used the money gained from selling the story rights to fund his next vessel.[5]

After having spent the 1980s undertaking a variety of controversial and dangerous operations in support of various marine conservation aims, in the 1990s the group has been described as having undertaken a shift in their public attitude.[5] Having previously argued primarily from an ethical viewpoint, from the 1990s, Watson's group now also started ascribing themselves law enforcement powers, using its interpretation of maritime and conservation law, to describe themselves as an anti-poaching agency.[5][11] In some cases in the 2000s, they cooperated with official government efforts against maritime poaching, such as in Costa Rican waters, though the agreements often did not last long before conflict ensued.[12]

I have no moral qualms with their current public campaigns (note I said current & public). To me it looks like a job somebody needs to do and they're the only takers. I don't like them and I think they do a piss poor job at it, but I don't see anyone else, including government entities, stepping up to regulate whaling. If nothing else at least the tv show promotes awareness.

what is going on is they are hunting whale, sounds simple, hell everyone likes to hunt. problem is it is illegal. many countrys including u.s. agreed on this law.they are killing them and saying that it is for research but getting rich.nobody is doing anything about it except one man. he has been at it for a long time, not just for a tv show.he operates on donations. he is kinda the jc of the sea he sees something that is wrong and is trying to do something about it. the type of whale they kill is endangered and they are not an estimated million of them left as stated earler. the japanese are stealing these whales for proffit and you call the only man willing to do something about it a terrorst.

You are mistaken on this. It is NOT illegal to hunt whales in the open seas. It is against the laws in alot of countries, but not world wide.

Um except that
1 - there's not much evidence from people *other than the eco-nuts* that these vessels are indeed hunting for profit
2 - as mentioned it wouldn't matter anyway b/c the laws agreed upon do not apply where there are.

Except that JC actually operates within the realm of the law and does not use terrorist tactics.
the type of whale they kill is endangered and they are not an estimated million of them left as stated earler.
please provide a solid reference for that b/c again, no proof.

Actually he calls himself a terrorist, did you read the quote above? that's his words.
Why should we not agree with the man in charge of the organization?
