My wife and I bought some land in Kernersville last week and all told we have about 3.5 acres or so. This is heavily wooded with lots of poplar and some pine.

I can give address to those who are 'helping' me with this, you can actually see the land via Google map / "streetview"

We are looking to sell off about 50% or so of that, I am wanting to keep the trees along the back line / creek and then down one side as a noise barrier. (I-40 is off to that side)

I know we have some forestry gurus on here and I realize this is not a huge "sale" but hoping to use the money for bulldozing etc.

We will be putting our home up for sale, expect it might take a bit to sell it, and when it does we will be building on this property.

Hmm, don't know what other details to offer other than the trees are all really good sized, have been there at least 35 years in most cases or longer.

Oh, "why cut them down?" I am basically clearing around the house, don't want anything that can fall ON the house and then clearing the septic field area. (Perk test / permit good thru Aug 2010)

Any and all help appreciated, thx! If we have any "loggers" on here, would love your thoughts and maybe we can do biz! I know the forestry "majors" on here will have some recommendations, etc as well.

One recommendation...I am thinking of planting MORE trees as barrier along the interstate area, there is a tree that is "like" leland cypress but less prone to disease? Other thoughts welcome as well on that.

Final bit of info... after this is done, I want to plant "an orchard" of the various fruits I can grow in this area. I plan on living here a long time, would love apples, pears...cherries, not sure what else, some blackberry bushes, blueberry, etc.

Sam,
I dont know anyone in your area, but Im sure you have a local guy with a 10wheeler and a knuckle boom loader up top. There are no less than 15 in my area down here and all will pay surprisingly well.

I'm not up to date on my ornamentals, but I will look it up when I get home and can help you with the Leyland reference. A "Sugi" tree is also a nice alternative and has some cool foliage.

Edit.
Pm sent with some contact info for a local guy...
