Selling scrap steel

I got a bunch of scrap steel I need to be rid of. Probably 2-3k pounds. Mostly sheet metal scraps, not good for much. Some heavy stuff like a few truck rims.

Lee Iron and Metal in Sanford says they'll only pay 3.25/cwt for it. 4.25/cwt for the heavy stuff if I separate it out and weigh separately and it must be cut to 3' or shorter (not worth the effort, IOW).

This rate seems kinda low -- what are others getting for unprepared mixed scrap steel?
 
ill see what the rates are around here. i know a couple months ago i was getting up 7.50-9.00 a hundred then last month it was 3.50 a hundred. pretty sure prices are back up b/c ther packed all day latley
 
Give TT&E in Garner a call. 919-772-9190. They are about the best in Raleigh area. I got 8.00/lb like 3 months ago. That was big stuff too flat rate for everything. I got 6.00 per pound like 4 years ago and the price has slowly climbed.

YOu sure about the 6 and 8$ per lb for steel, I don't think so....
Copper and brass are only 1-2 $ per lb at the most.......
You must be talking per ton or 1000 lb maybe 100lb or something but not 1 lb
 
Yeah if it was by the pound, Id be at the use car lot buying everything they have and driving them straight to the scrap yard :lol:
 
Copper is $2.80/lb around here if its clean, $0.70/lb for aluminum, $0.05/lb for lowest grade steel/etc.
 
D.H. Griffin used to come to my old job (carolina steel) and buy our scap off uss for 3cents a lb, we used some think heavy duty steel, like aw4xxx or somthing....
they ended up writting us a check for like 5000$ the next day..

Gotta wonder just what kinda herb is being dealt there.

Yesah kinda pisses me ff the last cars I sold (04) I got .009 per pound. (thats not 9 cents that 9/10 of a penny per pound) and sold 7 cars...

I mean its not rich money but damn it would have paid more now...
