I was wondering if I should change over to amsoil or any synthetic for that matter. Do yall use this or any synthetic. I have heard that I should not change it unless I started with a fresh motor (rebuild). Please give me your opinions and any info is appreciated.

I run a sbc 350 and go with 10w40 . It has about 10000 miles on it at most.

I also have a amc 304 that I run Rotella....same stuff I put in the Duramax.

Not just limited to the engine either. T-case, tranny, and diffs as well. Do I only need to worry about high dollar oil if I'm running KOH or will this help me in the long run driving an average trail rig.

On the dmax, Amsoil and a bypass filter is a great idea and in the trail rig, amsoil tractor hyd fluid in the hydro steering is a great idea. Otherwise, in a trail rig it's just a waste of money IMO. Especially places like diffs/tcases/transmissions in trail rigs where you lose or ruin a lot of fluids.

The other disadvantage is that YOU have to carry extra everything if you go syn. If you stay with traditional stuff you will be more likely to "bum" stuff off people.

But do run the tractor fluid it helped ALOT in my last buggy. My guess it transfered heat better than the other stuff.

Jeremy, I run the Amsoil oil bypass set-up on the '06 Cummins, along with their motor oil, gear oil, tranny fluid, brake fluid, fuel treatment etc. I've used it in the Jeep for the last 3-4 years, including their 190 racing weight gear oil for the STAK transfer case and the Tractor hydraulic fluid for the hydro, and I also use it in my wife's '08 Jetta.

I've had nothing but good experiences with their products. When compared to other synthetics there is not a huge price difference between amsoil and say mobil one, royal purple etc. Amsoil is still compatible with all other conventional fluids (dino, blends, and other syns) so you should not have a problem mixing them if you have to. I'm not saying Amsoil is a magical elixir, but I do think it is a quality product, and on any oil samples sent in, the levels all come back great.
