showing I have a PM when I really don't

For a week or so, the "notification" has shown that I've got an unread PM, when it's fully cleaned out or everything has already been read.

Earl try clicking on your name abopve the PM link and see if you have any visitor messages ....they are different from Pms but the notification is the same.

I wont tell ya it took me a month to figure that out myself.

Hmmm... cookie corruption issue, maybe? Try logging out and logging back in. If that doesn't do the trick, log out, delete any NC4x4 cookies, and log back in.
