Time for a transmission cooler in my 92 XJ after the tranny roasted last month. Looking at jegs and thinking of getting a flex a lite cooler. is it possible to go too over kill on a tranny cooler?

here is the page i am picking from.

I was looking at Towing Transmission Cooler
18,000 GVW
7-1/2'' x 15'' x 3/4''
6 Passes.

Anyone see anything wrong with that size?

OR

If you have had good results with a different cooler LMK!

Thanks In Advance:bounce2:

Tube and fin coolers are OK, but depending on your gearing and tires, without enough airflow that still might not be enough cooler. Yeah you don't want to be working your transmission cold, but too hot will kill it much faster.

I've always heard "the bigger the better" when it comes to add-on coolers.

I put a size smaller than that in my ECORS rig, and the fluid was pretty black after one race. I put it in front of the aux. fan, which I rewired to a switch; it was on 100% during the race. I kind of wish I put a temp gauge inline so I really know whats going on.
Stacked plate is supposedly the way to go, compared to tube/fin coolers.

Nick, try looking at the B & M supercooler(one im going with) I believe its a bit better than the flex a lite and pretty much comes with everything you need :D

I just bought the biggest stacked plate cooler sold at Azone.

My cooler is about that size and I strongly recommend it. you can go as big of a cooler as you want, just remember to route the fluid from the cooler, back to the radiator, to the tranny. That'll ensure it doesn't get too cold.

AW4's run stupid hot with a good load on it, so I wouldn't mess around with anything small. Go big or get towed home :D
